Melbourne continues to claim the award of one of the 'World's most livable cities'.  This article explains exactly why...
Melbourne: Trendy and tourist friendly

Friendly Residents

The locals, commonly referred to as the 'Melbournians' are a cultured and hospitable demographic.  If you're a lost tourist, locals will be quick to help you with directions and always happy to take your photo.

City 'Grid' Design & Efficient Tram Network

The CBD was designed as a logical system of streets that resemble a grid.  All of the main streets provide two-way traffic and some of the main streets have parallel smaller streets which are referred to as 'Little Collins' or 'Little Burke'.  These are usually areas which have fantastic hidden restaurants and entertainment.
You will never be disappointed with the food Melbourne offers.  Sure, many restaurants are usually not open until very late but if you manage to dine at a district such as 'Lygon Street' (Italian food), then you will have no trouble dining at 9-10pm.

A City of Entertainment

Years ago, Victoria was referred to as the state which is 'On the Move'.  This was a perfect slogan as it illustrated that our city is full of events.  Melbourne is often viewed as the sports capital of Australia, offering an impressive list of events such as the Australian Open (tennis), Grand Prix (car racing), AFL (Australian football), Cricket and many others. Here is an overview of the year:

  • September - AFL Grand Final
  • November - Melbourne Cup (horse racing)
  • December - Month where a year of hard work is finished and when locals take their holiday!
  • January - After returning from our holidays, Australian Open (famous tennis tournament) held from mid-end of the month. Many interstate visitors but a large amount from Overseas.  You might be lucky enough to see a famous tennis player on our city streets
  • February - We still haven't gotten over our busy few weeks and are already planning the Formula 1 Grand Prix which is currently held in Melbourne and will continue to be for the next few years.  It's an exciting time when all the sports cars line up around Albert Park lake. Also International Food and Wine Festival.
  • March - Melbourne holds the biggest aviation show in the Southern Hemisphere - Avalon International Airshow. Did I happen to mention March also hold the famous Garden show.  And then when you think you haven't experienced enough, you can watch beautiful models on the Runway. Moomba then greets our streets.
  • April - Is when our city experiences a good laugh.  International comedians come and entertain us, relaxing us after a stressful few months of fabulous events!
